Advanced Robotic Surgery

Dr Anthony Cerqui has been performing surgery robotically since 2018 and is one of the most experienced gynaecological surgeons in Australia having performed approximately 500 major procedures. The use of this advancement in technology improves patient outcomes with robotic surgery poised to be 'the way of the future'.

Dr Cerqui is lucky enough to have access to the system locally here in Toowoomba meaning our patients don't have to travel any further to get the benefits of this amazing technology.

What is robotic surgery?

Robotic-assisted surgery is using the minimally invasive laparoscopic approach but with the advanced technical assistance of the da Vinci console which comprises of 3 main physical pieces.

Patient cart

The patient-side cart is positioned near the patient on the operating table. It is where the instruments used during the operation move in real time in response to your surgeon’s hand movements at the surgeon console.

Vision cart

The vision cart makes communication between the components of the system possible and provides a screen for the care team to view the operation.

Surgeon console

The surgeon console is where your surgeon sits during the procedure.

The da Vinci console allows Dr Cerqui’s hand movements to be translated into smaller, precise movements inside the patient also providing Dr Cerqui with enhanced visualisation through magnification, 3D and HD vision, articulation of surgical tools and the use of dyes and lights to identify key structures to guide surgery. This system enables Dr Cerqui to operate with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity, purpose and control.

Why Robotic Surgery?

The da Vinci system provides Dr Cerqui with unparalleled control with tools that can move in ways that the human hand can’t providing greater precision.

Being a minimally invasive surgery means smaller incision and less damage to muscle walls and other tissues surrounding the surgical target.

Dr Cerqui’s own studies collaborate with da Vinci’s studies and have shown a significantly shorter recovery period, less blood loss during surgery, less post-operative pain, shorter stays in hospital providing the patient’s with a better experience and outcome all round.

Robotic Blog

Dr Cerqui has been invited to speak at a number of events to help educate fellow surgeons on the benefits and capabilities of the robotic systems.
